今回は、Gen（ジェン）先生をご紹介します！

穏やかな性格で、的確な指導と明確なアドバイスをすることが得意なジェン先生。

英語指導の経験が豊富で、年齢やバックグラウンドの異なる多くの生徒と関わってきたため、様々なレベル感の方でも、ペースを合わせて指導ができます。

そんなジェン先生に講師を目指したきっかけや、英語を学ぶコツについて聞いてみました！

ー　出身は？

私はサマール州にある美しい島、ダラム出身です。現在はカトバロガン市に住んでいます。ダラムは小さな島々や美しいビーチで知られていて、新鮮でおいしいシーフードも楽しめます。

ー　趣味は何ですか？

気分によって変わることもありますが、基本的には室内での活動が好きです。高校生のころから読書と音楽が大好きでした。最近はポッドキャストを聴くのにもハマっています。

ー　英語の講師を目指したきっかけは何ですか？

私は昔から人から学んだり、自分の考えをシェアしたりすることが好きでした。
生徒と話す中で、深くて意味のある会話ができることが多く、それがとても楽しいと感じています。だから、「それなら教える仕事がぴったりだ」と思ったんです。教えることで、生徒から学びつつ、自分の知識も伝えられるからです。

ー　英語を学ぶコツは何ですか？

私は「シャドーイング」テクニックをとてもおすすめしています。ネイティブスピーカーの話し方やアクセント、イントネーション、話すリズムなどを真似する練習法です。流暢さと発音の向上にとても効果的だと思います。日常生活の中に英語を取り入れ、できるだけ毎日使うことも大切です。

ー　教えるのが得意な分野は何ですか？

生徒との自然な会話が得意です。日常英会話もビジネス英語も教えるのが好きです。基本的な語彙や文法を教えるのも楽しくて、生徒さんの英語の土台作りに役立てることがうれしいです。

ー　将来の夢、目標、ビジョンを教えてください！

教師としては、生徒が自信を持って楽しく英語を話せるようサポートできる、効果的な先生になりたいです。
個人的な目標としては、もっといろいろな場所を旅してみたいです。フィリピン国内のさまざまな都市を巡るのはもちろん、海外の文化にも触れてみたいです。

ー　最後に、英語学習者へのメッセージをお願いします！

英語の勉強は時に難しく感じることもあるかもしれません。でも、努力して少しずつでも前に進んでいること自体がすばらしいことです。間違えることを恐れないでください。失敗は学びの一部です。プロセスを楽しんで、自分を信じて、あきらめずに続けてください。あなたなら、きっとできます！

ー Where are you from?

I’m from the beautiful island of Daram, Samar, but I’m currently living in Catbalogan City. My hometown is known for its beautiful islets and beaches. You can also enjoy delicious and fresh seafood in Daram.

ー What’s your hobby?

I would say my hobbies change depending on my mood, but I generally enjoy indoor activities. I’ve always loved reading books since high school and listening to music. Just recently, I started getting into podcasts as well.

ー Why did you become a teacher?

I’ve always loved learning from other people and sharing my thoughts with them.
I enjoy deep and meaningful conversations, which I usually experience when talking to my students. That’s why I thought, ‘why not teach?’ This way, I can continue learning from my students while also sharing what I know with them.

ー What are your tips to learn English?

I’m a firm believer in the ‘shadowing’ technique. It’s a method where you try to mimic how a native English speaker talks, including their accent, pronunciation, intonation, and overall speaking style. I believe it’s an effective way to improve both fluency and accent. Incorporating English into your daily activities and using it as much as possible every day can also be very helpful.

ー Which area are you good at teaching?

I enjoy having general conversations with my students. I also like teaching both general and business English. In addition, I find it fun to teach basic vocabulary and grammar rules, as it helps students build a solid foundation in the language.

ー What’s your dream/life goal/vision for the future?

My goal as a teacher is to be an effective and supportive teacher who helps students speak English with confidence and joy. As for my personal goal, I hope to travel more in the future. I’d love to explore the beauty of different cities in the Philippines, as well as discover new cultures in other countries.

ー Give a message to English learners!

Hello there! I know that learning English can be challenging sometimes, and it takes time. But the fact that you are doing your best and making progress is already amazing. Do not be afraid to make mistakes because they are part of the journey. Enjoy the process, believe in yourself, and keep going. You can do it!
