今回は、Cherry（チェリー）先生をご紹介します！

とても穏やかな雰囲気のあるチェリー先生！歌うことや韓国ドラマ（特にミステリー、サスペンス、犯罪捜査系）を観ることが好きなんだとか。

そんなチェリー先生は、発音と日常会話、ビジネス英語を得意としています。学習ペースを合わせた教え方も得意なため、英会話に少し抵抗のある方でも楽しんで受講いただける先生です！

そんなチェリー先生に講師を目指したきっかけや、英語を学ぶコツについて聞いてみました！

ー　出身は？

私はフィリピンの東ビサヤ地方、レイテ島にあるタクロバン市の出身です。私の故郷は都会と田舎の魅力が融合した、活気あふれる街で、木々や山々に囲まれており、近くにビーチもあります。

ー　趣味は何ですか？

時間があるときは、好きな音楽を歌ったり、韓国ドラマを観たりしています。特にミステリーやサスペンス、犯罪捜査ジャンルのドラマが好きです。長期休暇がとれたら、特に花が咲いている場所など、自然探索をしています。自然に触れると気分が明るくなりますね！

ー　英語の講師を目指したきっかけは何ですか？

元々私は、ホスピタリティ業界で働いていました。ホスピタリティ業界は多様な人々との交流が発生し、お客様とのコミュニケーションや、教育、サポートができることがとても楽しいと感じながら働いていました。そんな中、COVID-19によるロックダウンが発生しました。これによって、私のキャリアが終わってしまうのではと恐くなりました。なにか私の持っているコミュニケーションへの情熱を活かせる仕事がないかと考え始め、以前から興味を持っていたオンライン教育にキャリアチェンジをすることに決めました。その結果、人生で最良の決断をしたと思っています。生徒が成長していき、目標を達成し、自信を持って英語を使う姿にとても幸せとやりがいを感じています。

ー　英語を学ぶコツは何ですか？

自分に過度なプレッシャーをかけないことが大切です。楽しんで学ぶことがより効果的だと思います。実現可能な目標を設定し、定期的に練習し、話す相手を見つけることが重要です。話すことや質問することをためらわず、間違いを恐れることなく、進歩に応じて自分を褒めて、ポジティブな気持ちを保ちましょう。間違えたり、質問したりすることはごく自然な学びの過程です。学びの旅を楽しんでください！

ー　教えるのが得意な分野は何ですか？

私は発音、日常会話、ビジネス英語を専門としており、生徒の具体的な要望や目標に合わせたアプローチを取ることができます。また、TOEFLやIELTSなどの語学試験のサポートも得意で、自信を持ってテストに臨めるようサポートができます！

ー　将来の夢、目標、ビジョンを教えてください！

教育者として、生徒が恐れることなく英語を学ぶことができる未来を実現することです。誰もが言語の壁や他人からの評価を気にせずに自由にコミュニケーションができる世界を目指しています。私の個人的な目標は、絶え間ない学びを通じて、自己の向上と他者の支援をし続けることです。最終的には、キャリアと生活を安定させ、ポジティブで愛と幸福に満ちた生活を送りたいです。

ー　最後に、英語学習者へのメッセージをお願いします！

間違いを恐れずに前に進んでください。間違いは成長の礎です。定期的に英語を話す練習をし、完璧を求めず一歩一歩進んでいくことに集中してください。花と同じです。時間とともに能力は成長し、花開きます。あなたの旅路の一歩一歩を支援することが私たちが存在する理由です。一緒に英語がはなせる状態を目指して、共に学びましょう。あなたの努力が成功につながります！

ー Where are you from?

I’m from Tacloban City, Leyte, located in Eastern Visayas island of the Philippines. My hometown feels like a lively blend of city and countryside, with its vibrant atmosphere, surrounded by trees, mountains, and nearby beaches.

ー What’s your hobby?

When I have some extra time, you’ll often find me singing along to my favorite music or watching Korean dramas, especially mystery, suspense or crime investigation genres. And when I get the chance for a long vacation, I explore nature, especially places with flowers. They really do brighten my mood.

ー Why did you become a teacher?

During the pandemic lockdown, I feared it was the end of my career in hospitality industry, where I enjoyed interacting with diverse people especially communicating, teaching, and assisting them. Using my passion for communication, I decided to explore online teaching opportunities that caught my interest even before and all I can say is that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.  The appreciation and recognition I receive for helping them, and seeing them confidently use English for various purposes fills me with happiness. Seeing them improve and achieve their goals with my help fills me with pride, like a parent seeing their child succeed. Teaching goes beyond a career for me; it is a heartfelt passion that continuously teaches me about empathy, understanding, and the beauty of diversity.

ー What are your tips to learn English?

It’s important not to put too much pressure on yourself. Learning is more effective when you enjoy it. Set achievable goals, practice regularly, and find someone to practice speaking with. Don’t hesitate to speak or ask questions, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes; they’re a natural part of the learning process. Reward yourself for your progress and stay positive. Enjoy the journey of learning the language. 

ー Which area are you good at teaching?

I specialize in teaching pronunciation, general English, and business English, tailoring my approach to meet the specific requests and improvement goals of my students. Additionally, I can help  in preparing students for exams like TOEFL, IELTS, and other English proficiency tests, guiding them to progress confidently.

ー What’s your dream/life goal/vision for the future?

As an educator, my dream is for students to enjoy learning English without fear. I envision a future where everyone can communicate freely, without worrying about language barriers or judgment.
My personal goal is to continue supporting and teaching others while always striving to improve myself by continuous learning. My ultimate goal is to achieve career and financial stability and to live a life surrounded by positivity, love, and happiness.

ー Give a message to English learners!

Don’t let the fear of mistakes hold you back; they are stepping stones to improvement. Practice speaking English regularly, focusing on progress rather than perfection. Like a flower, your skills will grow and bloom with time, so stay patient and keep practicing. Remember, you’re not alone on this journey; we’re here to support you every step of the way. Let’s work and learn together to achieve fluency in English. Your dedication will lead to success!
