今回はJhana（ジャナ）先生を紹介します！

日本人生徒への指導歴が10年以上のジャナ先生は、とても人気の講師として活躍しています。趣味は、アメリカやイギリスのテレビを見たり、ペットの魚の世話をすることなのだとか！

発音とフリートークが得意で、会話練習のためにリラックスできる環境作ってくれるので、英語での会話に自信がない方に相性がよい先生です。

そんなジャナ先生に、レッスンで意識していることや、どういった経緯で英語講師になったのかをお聞きしました。

ー　出身は？

出身はフィリピンのラグナ州サンペドロ市で、生まれてからずっと住んでいます。サンペドロは私の人生の故郷であり、その美しさとコミュニティの温かさに感謝するようになりました。サンペドロは私にとって特別な意味を持つ場所であり、長年にわたって私を見守り、私を形作ってきた場所です。

ー　趣味は？

私には、喜びとリラックスさを与えてくれる趣味がいくつかあります。そのひとつが、アメリカやイギリスのテレビ番組を見ることです。さまざまなジャンルの作品を鑑賞し、魅力的な物語に没頭するのはとても楽しいことです。もう一つの趣味はペットの魚の世話で、これは私にやすらぎと充実をもたらしてくれます。最後に、読書です。新しい世界に入り込み、視野を広げ、物語の力を感じることができるからです。これらの趣味は、私の人生を豊かにし、娯楽、リラックス、そして自己成長をもたらしてくれます。

ー　英語の講師を目指したきっかけは何ですか？

私が講師になった理由はさまざまですが、そのすべてが教育や人との繋がりに対する情熱からきています。まず、多様な人々と関わり、有意義な会話をすることを心から楽しんでいます。講師として、私は毎日さまざまな人々と交流する機会があり、多くの知識が共有され、自分と他者の観点を交換できる学習環境を育んでいます。

さらに、講師という職業は、私自身が生涯学習者であることを可能にしてくれます。レッスンでは、知識を与えるだけでなく、生徒の文化や経験、人生について貴重な洞察を得ることができます。それは、魅力的な発見です。さらに、彼らのバックグラウンドや価値観、日本のような場所で生活することがどのようなことなのかを学び続けています。

また、講師として最もやりがいを感じるのは、生徒の語学学習の進歩や達成を目の当たりにすることです。生徒を指導し、目標達成の手助けをすることで、私は大きな充実感を得ることができます。生徒の成長を目の当たりにし、生徒が自信をつけていくのを見るのは、本当に嬉しい経験です。

ー　英語を学ぶ上でのTipsを教えてください！

英語を効果的に学習するには、「没頭すること」と「積極的に練習すること」の2つが重要なコツです。映画や音楽など、英語のメディアに囲まれ、英語に浸る。英語で考える練習をすることで、語学力を向上させる。さらに、会話相手を探したり、ランゲージ・エクスチェンジ・プログラムに参加したりして、積極的に英語を話すようにしましょう。定期的に会話の練習をして、自信と流暢さを身につけましょう。この2つのコツ、イマージョンとアクティブな練習は、あなたの英語学習の旅を大きく前進させます。

ー　将来の夢を教えてください！

私の夢と将来のビジョンは、働く母親として、仕事と母親としての喜びを両立させながら、実りある人生を送ることです。また、娘にとって良いお手本となるような存在になり、成功し、充実した人間を形成できるよう刺激を与えることを目指しています。そして、家族で旅行をして、思い出を作りたいと思います。

英語学習者の皆さん、学習を続けてください！言語を学ぶことは、チャレンジと報いの旅です。その道筋を受け入れ、失敗から学びましょう。モチベーションを保ち、英語に没頭し、言語に喜びを見出してください。自信をつけるために、定期的にスピーキングとライティングの練習をしましょう。学習は生涯続く旅であることを忘れないでください。楽しみながら、自分を信じて、達成感を味わってください。あなたには大きなことを成し遂げる能力があります。頑張ってください！

– Where are you from?

I’m from the city of San Pedro in Laguna, Philippines, where I have been living since I was born in 1989. It’s a place I’ve called home for my entire life, and I have grown to appreciate its beauty and the warmth of its community. San Pedro holds a special significance to me, as it has witnessed my journey and shaped my experiences over the years.

– What’s your hobby?

I have a few hobbies that bring me joy and relaxation. One of them is watching American and British TV shows on various online streaming platforms. I find it fascinating to explore different genres and immerse myself in captivating narratives. Another hobby of mine is taking care of my pet fish, which brings me a sense of tranquility and fulfillment. Lastly, I enjoy reading, as it allows me to escape into new worlds, broaden my horizons, and connect with the power of storytelling. These hobbies enrich my life and provide me with entertainment, relaxation, and personal growth.

– Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher for a variety of reasons that all stem from my passion for education and connection with others. Firstly, I thoroughly enjoy engaging with diverse individuals and having meaningful conversations. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to interact with different people every day, fostering a dynamic learning environment where knowledge is shared and perspectives are exchanged.

Moreover, being a teacher allows me to become a lifelong learner myself. In the classroom, not only do I impart knowledge, but I also gain valuable insights into my students’ cultures, experiences, and the intricacies of their lives. It’s a fascinating journey of discovery. Additionally, I continuously learn about their backgrounds, values, and what it’s like to live in places like Japan.

Also, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a teacher is witnessing my students’ progress and accomplishments in their language-learning journey. Guiding them and helping them achieve their goals brings me an immense sense of fulfillment. It’s truly a gratifying experience to witness their growth and see their confidence soar.

– What are you tips to learn English?

To learn English effectively, two key tips are immersion and active practice. Immerse yourself in the language by surrounding yourself with English media, such as movies and music. Practice thinking in English to improve language skills. Additionally, actively engage in speaking English by finding conversation partners or joining language exchange programs. Regularly practice speaking to build confidence and fluency. These two tips, immersion, and active practice can greatly enhance your English learning journey.

– What’s your dream/ life goal/ vision for the future?

My dream and vision for the future is to live a productive life as a working mum, balancing my professional pursuits with the joys of motherhood. I aim to be a positive role model for my daughter, inspiring her to become a successful and fulfilled individual. Alongside these aspirations, I envision creating lasting memories by traveling with my family.

– Give a message to English learners!

Dear English learners, keep going! Learning a language is a journey of challenges and rewards. Embrace the process, make mistakes, and learn from them. Stay motivated, immerse yourself in English, and find joy in the language. Practice speaking and writing regularly to build confidence. Remember, learning is a lifelong journey.
