今回はRee（リー）先生を紹介します。

国際経験豊富なリー先生は、一般英語からビジネス英語、資格対策まで幅広く対応可能な講師として活躍しています。休日はアクティブに過ごすことが好きなのだとか！

そんなリー先生に、英語を学ぶコツや、どういった経緯で英語講師になったのかをお聞きしました。

ー　出身は？

私はフィリピンの米どころ、ルソン島中部に位置するヌエバエシハ州出身です。アジアを旅して暮らしたいと思うようになるまで、子供時代のほとんどは故郷で過ごしました。私たちの州は乳製品と米の栽培で有名ですが、観光名所がたくさんあるわけではありません。それでも私たちのコミュニティは、訪れるすべての人々に心からの笑顔と豊かな親切を提供することに誇りを持っています。

ー　趣味は何ですか？

山が私を呼んでいるような気がして、それで登山やキャンプをするようになりました。他にも、サッカー、ペイントボール、カーレース、乗馬などを時々やっている。ボランティア活動も好きだ。

余暇はアクティブに活動するだけでなく、植物を育てたり、ガーデニングにも時間を費やしています（特にニンジンや緑野菜を植えることが好きです）。さらに、美味しい料理を作ることも楽しんでいます。

ー　英語の講師を目指したきっかけは何ですか？

当時、私は国際的な企業で学習開発のトレーナーとして企業や研究分野で従事していました。同僚やクライアントをトレーニングすることで、より多くの知識を他の人と分かち合いたいという願望が高まりました。日本人の学生を教えた後、私は教えることへの情熱を発見し、生徒の成功にやりがいを感じるようになりました。ソフトスキル、特にコミュニケーションのトレーニングは、私にとって特別な意味を持ちます。このような想いから、私は自分の経験から得た知識を分かち合い、特にグローバル英語を教える上で、生徒と共に学び続けることを目指しています。

ー　英語を学ぶコツは何ですか？

常にスピーキングの練習をするように心がけ、最初は荒削りでも構いません。日本語のような第二外国語を学ぶのも大変なことですが、私はその過程で学ぶことを楽しみました。英語も同じで、現実的な目標を設定し、忍耐強く根気強く続けることが大切です。自分に忍耐強く、困難にぶつかってもモチベーションを保つこと。継続的な努力は、やがて英語の上達に繋がります。

ー　将来の夢、目標、ビジョンを教えてください！

たとえ1日だとしても、すべての人が笑顔の喜びを体験できること夢みています。笑顔にはポジティブな繋がりを育み、人々のコミュニケーションを円滑にし、良い会話を始める力があります。

ー　最後に、英語学習者へのメッセージをお願いします！

私はいつも生徒たちに、新しい言語を学ぶことは、異文化とエキサイティングな冒険への入り口のようなものだと話しています。英語を学ぶということは、新しい冒険への扉を開くようなもので、私もその英語の旅に参加したいと思っています。英語を学ぶ準備はできましたか？私のレッスンで会いましょう！

– Where are you from?

I’m originally from the rice granary of the Philippines, Nueva Ecija, located in Central Luzon. I spent most of my childhood in my hometown until I longed to travel and live in some parts of Asia. While our province is celebrated for its dairy products and rice cultivation, it may not be teeming with tourist attractions. Nevertheless, our community takes pride in offering heartfelt smiles and abundant kindness to all who visit.

– What’s your hobby?

The mountains are calling me somehow, which is how I became involved in mountain climbing and camping. I’m also active in other ways, such as playing football, paintball, car racing, and horseback riding from time to time. I also love to do volunteering.

Aside from being active in my free time, I also spend time growing my plants and gardening. (I love to plant carrots and greens) Additionally, I enjoy cooking delicious dishes.

– Why did you become a teacher?

Back then, I had a corporate and research background working as a trainer for learning and development in international companies. Training my colleagues and clients fueled my aspiration to share more knowledge with others. After teaching Japanese students, I discovered a passion for teaching and found fulfillment in my students’ success. Training soft skills, particularly communication, holds special significance for me. With this in mind, I aim to share the knowledge I’ve gained from my experiences and continue learning alongside my students, especially in teaching global English.

– What are you tips to learn English?

Always try to practice speaking, and it’s okay if you start off rough. I realize that learning a second language like Japanese is also tough but I just enjoyed learning along the way. Same goes in English, iit is important to set a realistic goal and be patient and persistent. Be patient with yourself and stay motivated, even when you encounter challenges. Your consistent effort will eventually lead to improvement in your English.

– What’s your dream/ life goal/ vision for the future?

I dream that everyone can experience the joy of a smile, even if it’s just for a day. Smiling has the power to foster positive connections, help people communicate better, and start good conversations.

– Give a message to English learners!

I always tell my students that learning a new language is like the gateway to adventures in another culture and excitement. When you learn English, it feels like you’re opening the door to a new adventure, and I hope to join you on that English journey. Ready to learn? See you in my class!
